Travel Diary
Our first day of a 6-week journey across America. First a brief stopover in Chicago, then we continue on to Seattle, from where we cross over to Vancouver, Canada. From there, we travel to the capital of British Columbia, Victoria on Vancouver Island, then back to Seattle by ferry. Then we hire a car to travel around Washington State, where Cindy used to live, before heading through the Rocky Mountains to Yellowstone, then Wyoming, where there is Cindy´s nephew´s wedding. Then across Nebraska, before flying out of Omaha on the 7th of September.
We land at O´Hare a little late, and the plane had to wait about 20 minutes for a Gate to become available. O´Hare looked enormous. The land that comes off the vast Lake Michigan is flat and pocked with lakes, stretching to a mountain-free horizon. Very disorienting for we Swiss! A half-hour Blue Line subway ride to Chicago Downtown, and our hotel just 5 minutes from the Monroe Station. Convenient certainly. A glimpse of the L-line (elevated railway) and the Willis Tower further down the road, provide us with a promise for the morrow, as we find our room in the multi-storey hotel, and crash exhausted after a full day of travel.
